Samantha stepped inside Kye’s front door. She wasn’t feeling good. Her stomach was queasy with concern for her friend, and a chill had taken root in her skin at how close she’d come to being taken again.

She glanced around Kye’s foyer. He lived just outside central Marble Falls, and his home was beautiful. Even the outside was pretty jaw-dropping, with its perfectly manicured lawn.

And with his security gates and alarm system, not to mention having Kye close by, she couldn’t not feel safe.

The place was a single-story but seemed huge. There was an open door to the left of the big foyer, with a large bed beyond, presumably the master bedroom. A family room sat across from it, to her right.

Kye’s hand went to the center of her back as he led them down a hallway.

At the end of the hall was a large kitchen, living, and dining area. There was another hallway to the left, where Samantha assumed were more bedrooms.

“Your home is beautiful.”

Kye smiled as his hand dropped from her back. “Thanks. We got paid some hush money when we got out of Project Arma. As well as investing in Marble Protection, I bought this place.”

For a moment, Samantha wasn’t sure how to respond to that. Congratulations? I’m glad you got something good out of such terrible circumstances?

“It looks big.”

“I like space.” He tugged the fridge door open. “But I need to confess something. If you’re after a home-cooked meal, not only do I have no ingredients, I’m also a terrible cook. If leftover pasta is your jam, then you’re in luck.” He closed the door. “Or—and this is my preference—we can order pizza.”

She looked down at her phone, noticing it was almost dinnertime.

Whoa, she’d spent longer than she’d thought at the hospital. But then, she could have stayed all night just to be close to Tori.

“I actually ate something at the hospital, so I’m not very hungry.” Nibbling on some crackers from the vending machine counted as eating, didn’t it? Plus, her stomach really wasn’t feeling great.

Kye moved in front of her, pushing some hair behind her ear. God, she loved it when he did that. When he touched her in any way. She was starting to crave it.

“Are you sure?” He looked worried.

Samantha made an effort to smooth her features. “Yes. I might just take a bath, if that’s okay?”

He continued to study her face for another beat with his dark eyes. His hand trailed down her neck to her shoulder. An involuntary shiver ran up her spine.

“Of course.” His gaze darted from the hallway off the living area, to the hallway they’d just walked through. He almost looked uncomfortable. “The spare bedrooms are on the opposite end of the house from my bedroom. It might be safer if…”

When he didn’t finish, Samantha tilted her head to the side. “If we share a room?” A bed…?

The thought had her heart giving a little flutter

One side of Kye’s mouth lifted. If she didn’t feel so sick and tired, she’d probably be able to appreciate how sexy that smile was.
